The goals of this study were two-folded: (1) to examine the effectiveness of student-led teacher research as a vehicle for strengthening preservice teachers' preparation to form relationships with the families of infants and toddlers and (2) to enhance preservice teachers' sense of professionalism and commitment to the field of early childhood education. Results suggested that the students experienced both personal and professional growth during the course of this teacher research project. Students reported gaining new insights about parent-provider relationships in infant care, strengthening interpersonal communication skills, and constructing a greater sense of professionalism, advocacy, and allegiance to the early childhood field.

A socially just society is one in which all people are accorded equal worth and opportunity. It is a society incompatible with any form of prejudice or discrimination based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability or any other factor .This article explores current research into the role of education in combating social injustice. The authors have reconfigured a number of the identified themes from these research papers into four groups of issues of which teacher education programmes must be cognisant if they wish to work towards social justice outcomes.

This article presents the findings of a study which examines the professional identity of 45 student teachers. The students described their personal experiences in teaching their own subject. Furthermore, the students described the positive and negative emotions that were evoked. The study suggests developing the social aspects of learning to teach by supporting teacher identity formation in initial training.

This study examines whether teacher education institutions in Flanders have succeeded to implement competences in teacher education programs. An online survey inquiry was set up in eight elementary teacher education institutions. Findings reveal that whereas some competences are clearly present in the institutions’ policies and practices, others, such as teacher as partner of parents, external parties and as a member of the educational community, are poorly represented, .

The current study presents perceptions of student teachers during their internship period, regarding various aspects of teaching and components of the teacher education program they were about to complete. The findings are based on structured questionnaires and an open question. The findings can illuminate the relationship between the teacher education program and the teacher's professional world. In addition, the study reveals the world of the novice teacher, including self-efficacy in teaching, content and pedagogical knowledge, and motivation to engage in teaching as a profession.

The current article examines the developing beliefs about classroom motivation of preservice teachers. The findings emphasize several issues: the importance of filtering prior beliefs, alignment and conflict of ideas, significance of self-motivating factors and power of emotions in developing beliefs about classroom motivation.

Many English Language Teacher trainees find it difficult to develop a lesson holistically and to maintain alignment across aims, procedural steps, and evaluation when planning and implementing a lesson. The authors attempted to address this problem by establishing a model of trainees’ action that included their deliberate metacognitive structuring of a lesson both in planning and review phases.
