Computer-based Learning in a Primary School: Differences between the early and later years of primary schooling

Following the increasing expectations that all primary schools students and teachers actively use information and communication technology, the article explores the implementation of those efforts. Research indicated that the ICT programs established within schools often favor the later primary year levels over the early primary school years in terms of learning environment and programs in terms of early childhood philosophies during the first years of school.

Teachers' thinking, practice, and development are considered through a hypertextual function – a multidimensional model linking a teacher's knowledge about students (familiarity) and technology (facility). Other variables included were the integration of technology with content (connectivity) and teachers' sense of support (collegiality).
